César Milstein was born on October 8, 1927, in Bahía Blanca, Argentina. He graduated with his Ph.D. from Cambridge University in 1960. In 1975, he developed monoclonal antibody production with two colleagues. Their research earned them a Nobel Prize in 1984. In 1983, he was named head of the Protein and Nucleic Acid division at the Medical Research Council in Cambridge. He died on March 24, 2002.
