Born on March 29, 1955, in Dublin, Ireland, Brendan Gleeson yearned to be an actor at a young age, but spent a decade as a high school teacher before pursuing his dream. His big screen debut was a bit part in Jim Sheridan's The Field in 1990. And while Gleeson appeared in several films after that, including the Academy Award-winning epic Braveheart, it wasn't until his scene-stealing performances in I Went Down and The General (both released in 1998) that Hollywood stood up and took notice.
Gleeson went on to act in more than 30 films, including Michael Collins, Cold Mountain, 28 Days Later, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven and The Village. Younger audiences know him as Hogwarts professor Mad-Eye Moody from the 2005 film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, based on the fourth book of the popular Harry Potter series by author J.K. Rowling. Gleeson reprised the role of Moody for 2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, based on the fifth installment of Rowling's series.
Brendan Gleeson lives in Malahide County, Dublin, Ireland, with his wife, Mary, and four sons.
