Born in 1937, Bob Schieffer began his tenure at CBS as anchor for the Sunday broadcasts. He served 23 years as anchor for the Saturday edition of the CBS Evening News (1973–1996) and also anchored the popular public affairs show Face the Nation beginning in 1991. During his career, Bob Schieffer won six Emmy awards and was named Broadcaster of the Year in 2002 by the National Press Foundation.

Television journalist. Born Bob Lloyd Schieffer on February 25, 1937 in Austin, Texas. Raised in Fort Worth, Bob Schieffer attended Texas Christian University, where the journalism school was later named after him. He graduated and served in the U.S. Air Force before becoming a reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He briefly worked for WBAP in Dallas before joining CBS in 1969.

Bob Schieffer began his tenure at CBS as anchor for the Sunday broadcasts. He was assigned to the Pentagon from 1970 and 1974 and was the network's White House correspondent from 1974 to 1979. He served 23 years as anchor for the Saturday edition of the CBS Evening News from 1973-1996 and was chief Washington correspondent from 1982. He also anchored the popular public affairs show Face the Nation beginning in 1991. Following Dan Rather's controversial retirement in 2005, Schieffer stepped in as interim weekday anchor before Katie Couric took the helm in September 2006. He then returned to his position as CBS's chief Washington correspondent and has continued to serve as the host of Face the Nation.

During his career, Bob Schieffer won six Emmy awards and was named Broadcaster of the Year in 2002 by the National Press Foundation. His career has been almost exclusively devoted to national politics, and he is one of the few journalists to cover all four major Washington national assignments: the White House, The Pentagon, United States Department of State, and United States Congress.

Bob Schieffer is the author of four books, including Face the Nation: My Favorite Stories from the First 50 Years of the Award-Winning News Broadcast (2004) and Bob Schieffer's America (2008). He is married to Patricia Penrose Bishop; they have two daughters.
