Bill Hader, American actor and comedian was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With some convincing from his friends and colleagues, Hader joined the Second City Improv troupe in Los Angeles. After being discovered as a natural talent,
"The nature of SNL is that it's so in the moment... I feel like I'm going to wake up in August and turn to my wife and say 'Was I really on SNL?'"
Hader was approached by Lorne Michaels to audition for Saturday Night Live. He was a featured player in the 2005 season and quickly graduated to a cast member the following season. Hader has found much success in the light of SNL, landing roles in numerous movies. Hader's eighth and final season was the 2012-13 season of SNL.
Actor and comedian William "Bill" Hader was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 7, 1978. He was born into a family that had a flair for the arts. His mother, Sherrie, was a dance teacher and his father, who worked various jobs such as truck driving and restaurant managing, dabbled in the art of stand-up comedy. As a child, Hader loved film and knew that he wanted to build his adult life in the entertainment industry.
Hader worked after school and summer jobs during his teenage years in order to make money for his production of low budget short films. He was inspired by low-budget classics such as Sam Raimi's 1981 The Evil Dead. With completing a number of shorts through his high school career, Hader’s aspirations of becoming a director had been set into motion.
After graduation from Cascia Preperatory School, Hader headed west and attended The Art Institute of Phoenix briefly before moving to Los Angeles. Having dreams of being a director in a city that was dense with individuals fighting for the same thing, Hader took any job available. He took positions as a production assistant on films such as The Scorpion King and Collateral Damage.
Colleagues and friends took note of Hader's charisma and encouraged him to step in front of the camera. A close friend of Hader's invited him to attend a Second City performance. Hader instantly took interest in improvisation. He joined the Second City Los Angeles Improv Troupe. Eventually he gained membership in the sketch comedy group Animals of the Future.
Actress and fellow Oklahoman, Megan Mullally happened to be in attendance at one of the Animals of the Future's performances and was so impressed by Hader that she put a call in to Lorne Michaels. Hader was working as an assistant editor on Iron Chef America when he received the call to audition for SNL.
In a whirlwind of events, Hader went to New York and auditioned for a panel, which included Lorne Michaels and Tina Fey. His act included impressions of Tony Blair and Al Pacino, as well as an original character Vinny Devicci. Hader was welcomed to Saturday Night Live in 2005 as a featured player but quickly became a prominent cast member. Hader's success on SNL has been largely attributed to his spot-on impressions as well as his famous recurring characters such as "Stefon," the over-the-top New York club correspondent.
