Art Carney was born on November 4, 1918, in Mount Vernon, New York. After performing with Fred Allen, Edgar Bergen and Bert Lahr, Carney served in the U.S. Army and was wounded during the Normandy landing. He is best known for playing Jackie Gleason's sidekick, Ed Norton, on the pioneering television sitcom The Honeymooners. Carney won an Academy Award for his starring role in Harry and Tonto in 1974. He died in 2003.
