Tenor, born on September 22, 1958 in Lajatico, Tuscany, NW Italy. Interested in music from an early age, he learned to play the piano, flute, and saxophone, and was often asked to sing at family gatherings. Visually impaired from birth, he became blind at the age of 12 following a soccer injury.
Bocelli later studied law at the University of Pisa, spent a year working as a lawyer, then decided to try a singing career, financing himself by playing piano in bars. His lucky break came in 1992 when he recorded a demo tape of a duet, Miserere, that was heard by Pavarotti, who was persuaded to record the song with him. The duo scored a Europe-wide smash hit and international success followed with the single Time To Say Goodbye (1996), recorded with Sarah Brightman.
Notable albums include Romanza (1997), Sueno (1999), Tosca (2003), Cieli di Toscana (2001), Amore (2006), and Incanto (2008).
Bocelli married his first wife Enrica in 1992, but they divorced in 2002. The couple have two children. He has since been linked to Veronica Berti.
