Alan Keyes was born August 7, 1950, in New York City. In 1983 he was appointed ambassador to the U.N. Economic and Social Council. He was twice nominated for U.S. Senate but was lost both times. In 1994 he began a radio talk show. In both 1996 and 2000 he unsuccessfully campaigned for the Republican Party presidential nomination. In 2004 he stood for election to the U.S. Senate but lost to Obama.
