Synopsis
Profile
Physician and marine biologist, born in Paris, France. In 1952, after preliminary trials in the Mediterranean, he set out across the Atlantic alone in his rubber dinghy L'Hérétique without food or water to prove his claim that shipwreck castaways could sustain life on nothing more than fish, plankton, rain water and controlled drinking of small amounts of sea water. He landed at Barbados 62 days later. He started a marine laboratory at Saint-Malo for the study of the physiopathology of the sea.© 2013 A+E Networks. All rights reserved.
