Al Green was born April 13, 1946, in Forrest City, Arkansas. In 1964, a Green and some friends formed the Creations and toured the chitlin circuit before renaming themselves Al Green and the Soul Mates. They formed their own record label, but the watershed moment came for him in 1968 when he met the vice president of Hi Records. In the mid-1970s Green became a minister.
