Agustin de Iturbide was born Sept. 27, 1783, in Morelia, Mexico. As a young man he entered the royalist army. His defense of Valladolid against revolutionary forces dealt a crushing blow to the insurgents, and for he was given command of the military district of Guanajuato and Michoacán.
