She's been known to possess a Midas touch when it comes to her career moves, but these last couple of years have proven a bit of a roller coaster for Oprah Winfrey. Despite a very bumpy ride into cable television with her new network, OWN, it appears you just can't keep a good mogul down. Recently, Winfrey has managed to one-up her critics with reports that OWN's ratings are finally on the up and the company's financials are in the black—not to mention she's also had some political and side projects to be proud of: In 2013 she was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama and garnered acclaim for her supporting role in the Oscar nominated flick The Butler. Not bad for an already über accomplished woman who's approaching her milestone 60th on January 29th.
To celebrate Oprah's sexagenarian beginnings and for her over 30 years of service making television history, we chose this photo of her from 1978, when she just got her big break as co-anchor on Eyewitness News at WJZ in Baltimore, Maryland.
