Lucille Ball may be one of the world’s favorite redheads but in reality, she was born a brunette. During her early days as an actress, she dyed her hair blonde and wore wigs before her donning her signature red locks.
She is undoubtably one of the funniest ladies of the 20th century, but while Ball played a wacky redhead onscreen, offscreen she was an astute businesswoman. When she and Desi Arnaz split in 1960, Ball bought out Arnaz’s shares in Desilu Productions, making her the first woman to head a Hollywood film production company.
Whatever the hair color, when she was stuffing chocolates in her mouth on the candy assembly line, slurring the the pronunciation of Vitameatavegamin, or just figuring a new way to sneak into Ricky’s act at the Tropicana, we loved Lucy then — and we still love her today.
