This Friday Brooke Shields will be celebrating her 48th birthday. Hard to believe that the young, bushy-eyebrowed Blue Lagoon actress and Calvin Klein icon is nearing the big 5-0.

Looking back at her more impressionable years, we've seen her transform from model to matriculating student. Even back then, Shields wore many hats—and probably just as many pairs of Calvins. Like she once said in one of her CK commericals: "I've been Calvinized!"

But as much as her beauty inspired the rest of the world to become Calvinized, Shields wasn't solely interested in glorifying her assets. While she found great success in acting, she found that the work she was getting was marred with controversial depictions of sexuality.

Fed up with Hollywood, Shields decided to go to Princeton University in 1983 where she majored in French Literature. After completing all four years, she returned to acting, and despite a bit of a rocky start, managed to re-discover the success she had known before.

Perhaps the combo of beauty, brains, and a bit of Calvinization is the key to success.
