After walking out of budget talks over the weekend, House Speaker John Boehner unveiled a bill he hoped would avert the debt crisis. Boehner's proposed debt plan promised $1.2 trillion in cuts, along with an additional $1.8 trillion in deficit cuts recommended by a special committee. Boehner also sought to raise the debt limit by $1.6 trillion. "The United States cannot default on its debt obligations," Boehner said. "The jobs and savings of too many Americans are at stake." The speaker's plan was dealt a heavy blow, however, after congressional budget analysts reported that it wouldn't make as many cuts as Boehner originally claimed. As a result, Boehner moved a vote on the bill to Thursday, while he revamps the plan.
