Roy Albert DeMeo was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1942. He first got a job as a delivery boy for a neighborhood grocery store and started loaning money to friends to make a profit. After high school, DeMeo was making loans to anyone who needed it--and raking in good money. His loan-sharking business continued to grow, the Gambino crime family took notice, and DeMeo was brought into the family as an associate. DeMeo became the mastermind behind a corrupt and violent gang called The DeMeo Crew, known for their illicit activities. In order to protect their interests, the crew would kill anyone who interfered with their illegal activities. They believed that if the authorities couldn't find a body, they couldn't convict anyone. Although many cases remain unsolved, authorities believe The DeMeo Crew is responsible for up to two hundred murders.
