When a shadowy figure torches three synagogues in the middle of the night, the police force in Sacramento, CA, is immediately on high alert for hate crimes. They examine the few clues left at the scene, and hurriedly investigate supremacist groups in the area, but before they can make any moves a rusted red car pulls up to an abortion clinic, and moments later the clinic is in flames. As tension mounts, the investigation seems to be going nowhere, when things suddenly take a turn for the worse. The infamous red car pulls up outside a rural trailer, and moments later two gunshots are heard from inside. When police arrive they find a gay couple shot dead inside. The investigators get their first break when a mail order purchase comes through on one of the murder victim's credit cards. Police stake out the post office box, in hope of an arrest.
