Matilda brings to life Dahls’ classic tale in a way audiences have yet to experience. But such adaptations are always faced with great challenges when dealing with established works like this one. “There is a sense of responsibility you feel when you embark on changing a genre for such a well-known story,” said Tim Minchin, who wrote the music and lyrics for the show.
Matilda the Musical aims to be true to the world, while at the same time being innovating for the audience. In doing this, the show’s also created a monthly book club via Google + with Lucy Dahl to discuss her father’s work.
