While there were many people to choose from this week, here are our top picks that made us either raise an eyebrow, roll our eyes, shed a tear, or just gave us a good chuckle.
Obama Says ‘I Do’ to Gay Marriage
Rainbow blast: President Obama is the first president in history to publicly approve gay marriage. Although his announcement came earlier than he had planned due to VP Joe Biden‘s TMI pro-gay marriage chatter on Meet the Press, Obama made up for his Second-in-Command’s gaffe and told ABC News about his evolving views. He credits his daughters Sasha and Malia’s open perspective on the matter for helping change his mind.
We may not know how this shift in stance is going to affect his upcoming election, but what we do know is that some liberals and gays are seeing Obama in a very different light: as a unicorn-riding leader who magically shoots rainbows from his hands…“Double rainbow, wow!” (Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves.)
Social-ist Security? Francois Hollande Defeats Nicholas Sarkozy
Thanks to the country’s weak economy and rising unemployment, French citizens sent a clear message to President Nicholas Sarkozy this week when he was defeated by 57-year-old Socialist Francois Hollande, who became the first Socialist president in France since 1995.
President-elect Hollande, who will be taking office on May 15, has vowed to tax the rich at a whopping 75 percent. (Compared to this guy, President Obama looks like a fiscal conservative that Republicans would love to sing Al Green songs to.)
Color Me Happy: Hillary Clinton’s Okay With Her Nude Face—And So Should You
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s faux texts via Tumblr were hillary-ous, but this week’s Hillary gab was plain silly. While Clinton has been busy keeping us safe from jihadists, the web was abuzz about none other than her makeup-less mug—some critiques encouraging, while others not so much.
“I feel so relieved to be at the stage I’m at in my life right now,” Clinton told CNN. “Because you know if I want to wear my glasses I’m wearing my glasses. If I want to wear my hair back I’m pulling my hair back. You know at some point, it’s just not something that deserves a lot of time and attention. And if others want to worry about it, I let them do the worrying for a change.”
On that note: Rock on with your bad self, Hill.
Writing the Wave: Pippa Middleton Moving to NYC?
There’s something about that Pippa Middleton that makes people lose their knickers. While her sister Princess Kate Middleton is expected to live a life of prudence and propriety, Pippa has more freedom to take risks—and she already has. Aside from the 28-year-old’s busy schedule of dating a variety of hunky bachelors and getting over the gun-gate debacle in Paris, Pippa is said to be considering a move to the Big Apple to write a party-planning book.
If that’s the case, it looks like a huge wave of Pippa-razi will be joining her.
Leather & Lace: Marc Jacobs Wears a See-Through Dress
Some of us may ask “WHYYY?!” but apparently, Marc Jacobs asks “Why not?”
On Monday night the red carpet was ablaze in New York City for the annual Met Gala, which is known as the Oscars for fashion. While many fashionistas gasped and fanned themselves silly at the sight of Beyonce’s Givenchy Couture dress (no offense, but it kind of looked like a muppet had to die for her purple-blue train), Marc Jacobs’ lacy dress, white boxers, and leather leprechaun shoes made some of us find a new appreciation for our mundane accouterments from Marshalls.
