Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, visited famine refugees in East Africa today. The 60-year-old educator led a U.S. delegation to Kenya to visit Dadaab, the world’s largest refugee camp. Refugees have flooded the camps as they flee from a severe drought in Somalia, where tens of thousands of children have died in the last three months. Biden met with mothers and their children, and said, “What I’m asking is for Americans to reach out and help because the situation is dire.” Biden’s visit is the most high-profile visit by the U.S. to the famine-stricken region. The White House is planning to announce $100 million in famine aid.
