One hundred and eleven years ago Annie Edson Taylor climbed into a wooden barrel and became the Queen of the Mist. Taylor, a widow by way of a a Civil War soldier, decided to travel over Niagara’s hazy falls via a timber tub. She became the first woman and first person ever to complete such a feat.
Taylor is since considered an American daredevil (though this was her only known stunt). But honestly, what more would she have had to do to earn that title?
