Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has said he’ll stay on through the fall of 2010. Tired of the distance from his family in New York, Geithner had considered leaving the Obama administration after debt negotiations came to a close. The first-ever downgrading of the U.S. credit rating on Friday, however, has contributed to the nation’s economic turmoil, and the White House put pressure on Geithner to stay. Geithner is Obama’s longest-serving economic advisor, in office since January 2009. In an interview yesterday Geithner said, “If a president asks you to serve, you have to do it.”
