Britain showed some respect for the Fonz on Thursday. Actor Henry Winkler has been appointed an honorary member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE). He received the honor in a ceremony at the British embassy in Washington, D.C. The Fonz would agree that an award from the Queen is most excellent.
Winkler received the honor for his work helping kids with dyslexia- a condition he dealt with since with since childhood, but was only diagnosed as at age 31. He has toured British schools to talk about it, and co-authored children's books about Hank Zipzer, a boy with dyslexia. The 65-year-old is best known for his portrayal of leather-clad tough guy Fonzie on Happy Days, co-starring Ron Howard as the all-American Richie Cunningham.
The honor doesn't make Winkler a knight, or bestow the title of "Sir". That's when the Queen awards the title of "Knight Commander" or "Knight Grand Cross" of the Order of the British Empire. That's ok, because Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli is a pretty good title.
