Jazz singer Etta James—possibly best known for her romatic ballad "At Last"—passed away early this morning from leukemia complications. She was 73 years old. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

James had long been suffering from poor health; in 2009 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and earlier this year she received a cancer diagnosis as well. She is survived by her sons, Donto and Sametto, who had been caring for the star in her final years.

"This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world," her friend and manager, Lupe De Leon said. "I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her always."
