Match of the Century, Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali

The producers at BIO.com review hundreds of photos of famous figures each week, from award-winning actors and popular singers, to headliners and scandal makers. While we're digging through these archives, we often come across amazing photos that we're just dying to share. So, without further ado, here's the one image that stands out to us this week:

 

 

It was the "Fight of the Century" on March 8, 1971. U.S. heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier knocks down "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Frazier won the grueling 15-round bout to defend his title while Ali lost for the first time in his professional career. Both boxers landed in the hospital after the famous match and were guaranteed a record-setting $2.5 million each. (Photo from AFP/Getty Images)

 

Joe Frazier made his pro boxing debut 47 years ago on August 16, 1965. He went on to go 11-0 in his first year, with all of his victories by knockout.
