Jerry Lewis is retiring as the national chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a post he’s held for more than 50 years. 85-year-old Lewis will not appear in the annual telethon this labor day. A comic legend who made his name partnering with Dean Martin beginning in the 1940s, Lewis has helped raised millions of dollars to fight the disease, hosting the MDA Labor Day Telethon that has become synonymous with his name. He was awarded a special Oscar for humanitarian work in 2000.
