In a triumphant return, Gabrielle Giffords was back in the halls of Congress today for the first time since she was shot in the head in January. The Arizona congresswoman survived the attack by 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, who killed six people in a shooting rampage. She made her appearance in Washington today to cast her vote on the debt-ceiling bill. “I had to be here for this vote. I could not take the chance that my absence could crash our economy.” Giffords was critically wounded and underwent surgery in May to replace part of her skull with plastic after the attempt on her life. She is continuing outpatient therapy.
