No sparkling mermaid tail this time, just a shiny pair of handcuffs for actress Daryl Hannah, who was arrested outside the White House yesterday at an oil pipeline protest. Police slapped cuffs on the 50-year-old actress, and several other protesters, after they refused to move from the sidewalk in front of the White House.
The activists were demonstrating against a proposal for the Keystone XL oil pipeline, which would run from Canada to the Gulf Coast. Hannah is a longtime environmental activist, and has been arrested for protests in the past.
The 80s bombshell and former girlfriend of John F. Kennedy, Jr. has been arrested in the past for similar protests. Before she was arrested, Hannah told the Associated Press, "Sometimes it's necessary to sacrifice your freedom for a greater freedom. And we want to be free from the horrible death and destruction that fossil fuels cause, and have a clean energy future."
