William "Bill" Ryder Biography

(1966–)

Share

Amateur baseball, tennis, racquetball, golf, softball, volleyball, hockey player. Intramural sports extraordinaire. Born in January 21, 1966 in Englewood, New Jersey.

Bill moved to Brattleboro, Vermont in the late 1980s with his girlfriend. He waited tables at Pizza Hut just off of exit 3 (where, on numerous occasions, Bill would encourage customers to get their pizza at the better quality competitor across the street). Bill began torrid affair with Pizza Hut co-worker (her house was eventually burned down in an arson fire; authorities suspected the woman's boyfriend).

In Vermont, Bill befriended actor and baseball fanatic Jamie Meyer (Funny Farm). The two would eventually become roommates in a Strat-O-Matic-and-empty-pizza-box-furnished Lyndhurst, New Jersey basement apartment; later, the two found similar accommodations in Brattleboro.

Known for his wide-ranging sports talent, spot-on Bob Murphy impressions and high-volume wit (he once asked a Fort Myers, Florida, Hooters waitress if she "comes here often"; routinely cajoled minor league baseball players to hustle, including Rickey Henderson and Hector Villanueva), Bill moved back to New Jersey to begin a semi-professional sports career.

Bill hit a grand slam in the 2003 North Jersey Men's Senior Baseball League championship game. The home run helped the Bergen Yankees win an epic 22-21 battle, the first NJMSBL title in franchise history.

A vocal proponent of sub-par minor league baseball, Bill once nearly soiled himself when a New Haven Ravens' t-shirt cannon promotion went terribly awry. Known for inappropriately relating social occurrences to baseball, Bill once described his friend's wheelchair-bound mother as not having "much of a bat, but she's got good wheels."

Bill dated Inga, a well-endowed blonde who his father spotted while on a stroll through the neighborhood. The two broke up when Bill refused to move back with her to her native Poland, opting to continue his career.

He finished tied for 18th in points with 26 for the New Jersey Tigers in the 2003-2004 season. Bill finished 13th in assists (13) and 23rd in goals (13).

Bill holds all regular and postseason Hamilton Place (Tenafly) stickball records.

Bill lives at home in New Jersey.
