Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone was born in San Francisco, California on October 4, 1976. She first gained fame when she appeared in a series of music videos for the rock band Aerosmith. She went on to star in "Clueless" and other movies.

Alicia has been a vegetarian since 1998 and in 2004 she was voted PETA's "Sexiest Female Vegetarian." She notes that her love of animals led her to vegetarianism initially but she soon realized that it was great for her looks and her health. Alicia uses every opportunity to encourage people to try vegetarianism. Married since 1995, Alicia lives in an eco-friendly home in Los Angeles with her husband and a pack of rescued dogs.

Betty White

Betty Marion White was born on January 17, 1922 in Oak Park Illinois and has been an animal-lover since birth. She reports that although she was an only child, her home was always filled with animals.

An award-winning stage, movie, and television actress, Betty is best known for her roles on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Golden Girls." She has used her celebrity to advance the cause of animal rights and is an active member of many charitable organizations. Together with her "Golden Girl" cast mates Rue McClanahan and Bea Arthur, Betty starred in one of PETA's Fur Is Dead commercials. Betty turned down a role in "As Good As It Gets" because of a scene in which a small dog is tossed down a garbage chute.

About his wife's love for animals, her late husband Allen Ludden once said that "television is her hobby and the Los Angeles Zoo animals her work."

Bob Barker

Robert William "Bob" Barker was born on December 12, 1923 in Darrington, Washington. He spent most of his childhood on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Always an animal lover, Bob reports that when his mother needed to find him as a child, she could just look for the pack of dogs; Bob would be in their midst.

Bob is best known for his role hosting the long-running game show, "The Price Is Right." He began hosting on September 4, 1972 and, until his last show on June 15, 2007, he ended his shows by urging viewers to have their cats and dogs spayed. He ended the show's practice of offering fur coats and live animals as prizes years ago. He also convinced the Miss Universe Pageant to ban the use of fur when he hosted in 1987.

Bob became a vegetarian in 1979 and will not wear anything made of leather. He credits his mother and his late-wife with his strong convictions. Bob created the DJ and T Foundation in 1994 to fund grants for spaying and neutering clinics.

Daryl Hannah

Daryl Hannah was born on December 3, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois. She became interested in movies as a young child because she suffered from insomnia. She became a vegetarian at the age of eleven. She is perhaps best known for her role as the mermaid in "Splash." An ardent environmentalist, Daryl has a weekly video blog on sustainable solutions. Her home runs on solar power and is built with green materials. She drives a car powered by biodiesel. Daryl has been arrested for environmentally-motivated protests and believes strongly that everything is interconnected: being a humanitarian, and supporting animal rights activists and human rights activists.

Ed Begley, Jr.

Edward Begley, Jr. was born on September 16, 1949 in Los Angeles, California. He followed in the footsteps of his Academy-award winning father and has acted on television, in movies, and in the theater.

A passionate crusader for our environment and all living creatures, Ed often rides his bicycle to Hollywood events. He lives near Los Angeles in a self-sufficient home powered by solar energy. He is a leading member of many of the biggest conservancy groups and has produced an environmentally-friendly household cleaner called Begley's Best, from which all profits go to charity.

Heather Mills

Heather Mills was born on January 12, 1968 in Aldershot, Hampshire, England. Although she is perhaps best known now as the ex-wife of Beatle Paul McCartney, Heather started modeling as a young woman. In 1990 she moved to Slovenia and witnessed the brutal civil war there. She then modeled to raise money for victims of the war. In 1993, while in London, she was struck by a police motorcycle and lost her left leg from the knee down. This spurred Heather to activism and she raised money for war refugees, amputees, and victims of land mines everywhere.

Heather is an activist for vegetarianism, animal rights, and against land mines. She is the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Association of the USA. She has campaigned against the annual seal hunt in Canada and the trade in dog fur. She is a patron of Viva!, Britains leading vegetarian, vegan, and animal rights organization. Heather has appeared in PETA ads denouncing fur.

Joaquin Phoenix

Joaquin Rafael Phoenix was born on October 28, 1974 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His parents were missionaries for the Children of God and their work took them around South America. His parents encouraged all of their children's creativity, and Joaquin started acting, under the name of Leaf, when still a child. When he was 15, he changed his name back to Joaquin. In addition to his television and award-winning movie roles, Joaquin has produced music videos.

A vegan since the age of three, Joaquin is an active member of PETA. He supports the ban on the cat and dog fur trade and appeared in PETA's first ever vegan commercial. He has posed for an anti-fur poster and asked the California State Assembly to ban the practice of chaining dogs. Joaquin narrated the film "Earthlings" on behalf of Nation Earth. The video details the investigation of animal abuses on factory farms, pet mills, in industry, and in research.

Mary Tyler Moore

Mary Tyler Moore was born on December 29, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York. She moved, with her parents, to California when she was 8 years old and began acting in commercials when she was seventeen. She is best known for her roles in "The Mary Tyler Moore" show and "The Dick Van Dyke Show."

Mary supports several charity causes, among them diabetes education and research and animal rights. She is a pesco-vegetarian; meaning that she eats (in addition to fruits and vegetables) only fish and seafood. She is co-founder of Broadway Barks, an annual adopt-a-thon held in New York City. She campaigns to promote the adoption of animals from shelters. She is a PETA activist and no longer wears fur or eats lobster because of the way they are cooked.

Mary and her husband had an apartment on the Upper East Side of New York City during the early 2000s. A red-tailed hawk's nest was removed from the building, provoking a city-wide outcry, of which Mary was part.

Pamela Anderson

Pamela Denise Anderson was born on July 1, 1967 in Ladysmith, British Columbia, Canada. She has worked as a successful model and television actress and is best known for her role on "Baywatch."

Pamela has been a vegetarian since her early teens, allegedly after walking in on her father slaughtering an animal he had hunted. She is an active member of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and has campaigned against the use of fur, Kentucky Fried Chicken's treatment of chickens, seal hunting in her native Canada, and the fruit juice maker POM because they continue to test their products on animals. Pamela speaks out on the benefits of vegetarianism whenever possible.

Tippi Hedren

Advocate for: Large and exotic cats

Nathalie Kay "Tippi" Hedren was born on January 19, 1930 in New Ulm, Minnesota. She began her career as a professional model before turning to acting, most notably in "The Birds," an Alfred Hitchcock film.

In 1981, Tippi produced a film titled "Roar," which starred dozens of African lions. In 1983, she established the non-profit Roar Foundation and Hedren's Shambala Preserve, in Acton, California. Shambala, located at the edge of the Mojave Desert, is a refuge for endangered exotic big cats. Tippi lives at Shambala and, once a month, conducts public tours. She has been much honored for her work with the animals and serves as the President of the Roar Foundation.

Willie Nelson

William Hugh Nelson was born on April 30, 1933 in Abbott, Texas. He is an extremely successful entertainer and songwriter, in addition to acting in movies and writing books.

Willie's convinced of the benefits of biodiesel biofuel. He and his wife, together with other partners, have built two biodiesel plants. Another of Willie's passions is horses and he works tirelessly as their advocate. He has campaigned for the passage of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act with the Society for Animal Protective Legislation. He has adopted a number of horses from Habitat for Horses.

Linda Blair

Linda Denise Blair was born on January 22, 1959 in St. Louise, Missouri. She modeled as a young girl and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. Her most famous role, that of a possessed girl in "The Exorcist," was taken to earn money to pursue her love of horsemanship. After her success with "The Exorcist" and its sequel: "Exorcist II: The Heretic," Linda's acting career had its ups and downs. In the 1980s, she resumed her love of horsemanship and rode and competed under assumed names.

A committed vegan, she founded the Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation to help abused and abandoned animals. Her organization works to fight animal overpopulation and to put an end to dog fighting. Her group, Kids N pets, encourages responsible pet ownership.

Sarah McLachlan

Sarah McClachlan, an award-winning singer and songwriter, was born on January 28, 1968. In addition to managing her own successful career, Sarah founded the Lilith Fair, a showcase for female musicians. The Lilith Fair was held annually from 1997 until 1999. Sarah campaigns to raise money for an outreach program to help inner-city children in Canada experience music.

A lifelong lover of animals, Sarah is an avid supporter of animal rights and, in particular, the ASPCA. She has filmed a commercial for the ASPCA and is a spokesperson for that cause.
